What I’m Digging #5

This edition of W.I.D. is an older post that I forgot to type out. Oops! The newest editions of W.I.D. will be posted in late December.

talenti     Food: I’m on this whole eating better personal movement, but this chick still loves her sweets. My bud has been very vocal about his love for gelato, so I finally searched for his highly recommended treat. I picked up a pint of Talenti Caramel Cookie Gelato and I will never be the same. I’ve been changed, y’all! The gelato was extra creamy, the caramel was rich and flavorful, and those damn cookie bits were hella crunchy. I devoured that sweet goodness with a quickness.

stTV Shows: Stranger Things came out of nowhere and turned into an instant classic! I wasn’t even expecting the show to be as incredible as it is. I figured I would enjoy it based on comments from a few Facebook peeps, but damn I really loved the show! Without giving too much away, the show is about a young boy who goes missing, and his loved ones frantically search for him. If you adore all things eighties, sci-fi, and nerd culture then check out this show.

qsQueen Sugar is a show on the OWN network brought to us by visionary filmmaker Ava DuVernay. It’s a show about three estranged siblings who come together after a tragedy. now, I wasn’t on the hunt for a new show, but decided to give the show a chance. I’m loving it!! All of the show’s elements: acting, writing, cinematography, etc are excellent. I’m hoping for a season two!

stevie Books: Although, I’m a massive Stephen King aficionado, I haven’t read his entire body of work, but that’s about to change. My plan is to spend the remainder of this year- and the next, reading all the books I’ve never read by Uncle Stevie. I just finished “Misery”, and it was an amazing masterpiece.

Hope you enjoyed my list!

Cheers, homies!

What I’m Digging #4

Here’s everything that I’ve been digging as of late.

Fear Music: Fear Factory is a band that I’ve heard of, but I had yet to check out their work. Awhile back I heard their song called “Replica” and I was just altered. OMG this band is hella dope! I can’t believe I was sleeping on them. Metal has really had a calming effect on me lately. I have no idea why, but after listening to this band I feel much more relaxed. FF’s music is like receiving a full body massage, or the calm buzz you feel after having a good cocktail. Love them!

Meg Meg Myers was introduced to me by a friend’s post on Facebook. The song that was posted was called “Desire” and it was straight fire! After listening to that jam five times I immediately went on YouTube to look up more songs. Every single Meg song I heard I fell in love with. She is totally one of those confessional singer-songwriters who makes beautiful- relatable, music that stirs the soul.

SledgeRihanna is a singer that I’ve never been a fan of, but a sista might have to eat her words. She has this song for the new Star Trek Beyond soundtrack that has knocked me on my ass, yo! I love “Sledgehammer”!!! Lyrically, musically, and vocally this song is so atmospheric. I play this jam on repeat, believe me.

Sons TV Shows: All good shows must come to an end. I understand that concept, but it doesn’t stop me from mourning. I’ve been re-watching all my best-loved episodes of Sons Of Anarchy over the last week. SOA was such an unforgettable and brilliant show. Every season was well written, and well acted. My bud got me into the show in the summer before its fifth season; so I binged the first four seasons just in time for the Fall premiere in 2012. Instantly I connected with the amazing characters, and really fell for them. The storylines were innovative and intriguing… damn I loved SOA!

Served Are You Being Served? is a classic British comedy that I’ve been addicted to since I was a kid. I’ve been watching episodes of this landmark series whenever I’ve been depressed, and it makes me laugh until my side aches. AYBS? revolves around a retail staff employed at a department store called Grace Brothers. All the characters are colorful, and funny as hell! Mr. Humphries has always been the character I favored the most. Every episode of this show will have you laughing out loud, hardcore. Love it!

Brokeback Short Stories: After reading Brokeback Mountain for the hundredth time, I realized that it’s one of my most adored love stories. Brokeback Mountain by Anne Prolux, is about two men who carry on a twenty year love affair that begins in the early sixties when they worked together herding sheep.  Although they lived separate lives they would come together a few times a year, and they treasured that time… hell, they lived for that time.  This story is heartbreaking, tumultuous, and emotional. The ending leaves me broken (no pun intended) every freaking time.

Cheers, homies!

What I’m Digging #3

It’s time for another edition of What I’m Digging! Let’s get started. 🙂

flowers Books: I’m currently reading “Flowers In The Attic” by V.C. Andrews. Everyone has seen the 1987 film adaptation starring Kristy Swanson, and Louise Fletcher. My homie, Wendy, was raving her behind off about this infamous story. She gifted me with a copy, and I’m almost done reading it. Obviously the film and the book are two different beasts; mainly because there’s so much that the movie left out. “Flowers” is about a widow named Corrine and her four children; who are forced to move in with Corrine’s parents. Corrine’s mother is a holier than thou bitch from hell; a cruel woman who believes God granted her permission to mistreat those around her in His name. Corrine’s children were forced to deal with such horrific atrocities, that it made my heart ache. I’ll never understand how their mother could allow them to be treated so cruelly. I have about fifty pages left before I’m done. I’m definitely going to order the second book in this series.

Short Story: “You Know They Got A Hell Of A Band” is a short story from Stephen King’s “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” collection. This tale is about a couple on a road trip who become lost, and end up in a town called Rock and Roll Heaven. At first the quaint town appeared to be a picturesque slice of Americana, but this is a Stephen King story. Everything isn’t what it appears to be, but learning the true origin of the town was frightening, and fascinating.

TV Shows: I love Game Of Thrones!! For the past week I’ve been re-watching the first season on HBOGO. I knew at the conclusion of the first episode that GOT would be my shit. At the end of the first season I felt as if I’d been through an emotional war. The major character deaths devastated me, but I had to continue watching. GOT isn’t a safe show; it’s truly dangerous television, folks. The fact that no character is safe just makes me enjoy the show even more. When my two favorite characters were killed off, well I didn’t know what to do with myself. GOT is very effective with taking the fans to the edge, and pushing us off the damn cliff.

john I’ve been watching old episodes of One Life To Live on YouTube. Remember when daytime dramas ruled the world? I do and it was glorious. I used to live for summer vacations just to watch the “stories” with my Big Mama. I mourn the loss of overly dramatic, but bosstastic daytime programing. I was gaga over an OLTL couple; Evangeline Williamson, and John McBain. I was so enraptured with their love story. Evangeline (played by Renee Elise Goldsberry) was a stunning, intelligent, and strong-willed attorney. John (played by Michael Easton) was a detective with a dark aura, who was all about justice. Together the were a smoldering couple that I was obsessed with in 2004. Damn, they were so amazing together! Lawd, those love scenes were hella hot! I’ve been getting my life watching all their old clips. In honor of this memorable couple I named the two lead characters Evangeline, and John, in my next short story. And the actors who portrayed my fav couple still look gorgeous today. Renee is currently on Broadway doing her thing and Michael is back on General Hospital kicking ass.

roWrestling: Wrestling has been in my system since childhood. I was watching the ish when it wasn’t cool to be a fan. I loved watching WWE/WWF, WCW, ECW, and WCCW, which was based here in Dallas. There was a place near downtown called the Sportatorium , and all the WCCW matches were filmed there. Watching the VonErichs, and The Fabulous Freebirds on Saturday nights was my thing. About 2005 my passion for sports entertainment fizzled out. There was a comeback in 2011, but after my boo, CM Punk, left the WWE I stopped tuning in. Lately, a sista has been feeling nostalgic like a mofo. I’ve been checking out old wrestling dvd’s, and matches on YouTube. Roman Reigns is my new-school fav wrestler, and he’s bossome! That man is hella talented, and he kicks serious ass! I love seeing him in action.

Hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading!

Cheers, homies!

What I’m Digging #2

It’s time for another edition of What I’m Digging! I’m soooo excited! Let’s get started.

YTYouTube Channels: Awhile back I discovered Stick It To The Wick; a channel focusing on Scentsy, and other home smell goodz. Because I’m such a home smell goodz nut, I enjoyed the reviews on wax melts, and candles found on this channel. Stick It To The Wick has a new beauty channel under Bri Adams, and it’s so worth checking out. Bri’s beauty channel includes hauls, reviews, monthly favorites, and tutorials. Bri’s channel is digging worthy because she features both inexpensive, and high-end products. Her knowledge and passion for the products gets me so hyped! I swear I want to spend all the money that I don’t have. 😀 I love the fact that Bri isn’t phony or pretentious. She has a fun and relatable personality that you will love the hell out of! So please check out her original channel here. And check out her beauty channel here.

JackieTV: I’ve just started watching Nurse Jackie on Netflix, and I’m soooo into this ish!! I crack up hardcore during each episode. The show is so well written that laughing is inevitable. The show revolves around Jackie (played by the hella talented Edie Falco), who is an ER nurse at a busy NYC hospital. Jackie is addicted to painkillers, and she gets the majority of her meds from the hospital pharmacist she’s sexing on the low. Did I mention that she’s a married mom of two?! I’m trying to figure Jackie out as a character, and I’m having fun learning more about her.

The Walking Dead has been kicking more ass than Bruce Lee during its sixth season! Yessss! Each episode has me in strange trance where a sista can’t be reached, at least until the show is over. The last four episodes have been giving me life! The season finale will be an unforgettable episode. I’m so hyped! And I’m ready to meet Negan!!

Dollar Tree: I have an unhealthy infatuation with this store. I go into a manic frenzy whenever I walk through the doors. There are so many bossome treasures in the DT, that I love getting my hands on. Last week I spotted Krispy Kreme Candles. I snatched those bad boys up, and was hella giddy when I put them in my cart. I bought the Maple Iced Doughnut scent, and the Raspberry Filled Doughnut scent; both have exceeded my expectations. The candles produce such a pleasant, sweet, and yummy scent. The whole house smelled like a bakery, and I was all about that.

white.jpg Books: “White Belt” by Faye McCray had been an unexpected, but enjoyable surprise. “White Belt” takes place during the zombie apocalypse. The story is told by our protagonist, Dani, a college student, who is in way over her head. I was fearful that since I’m knee-deep in The Walking Dead universe, that maybe I wouldn’t enjoy this story. I was wrong and I loved the hell out of this! Coming up with a fresh-and engaging, storyline for a zombie apocalypse would seem difficult, but “White Belt” rises to the occasion.

angels“Dirty Angels” by Karina Halle is considered to be a “dark” story, and I can understand why. Violence (physical and sexual) is abundant, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story. Luisa Chavez is a waitress working in the touristy section of Mexico. She works hard to care for her ailing parents, and just wishes for something better. A leader of a drug cartel makes Luisa an offer she can’t refuse; and the story gets going from there. Ms. Halle has a way of making you loathe a character one minute, and then fall in love with his ass the next minute. She did that in such a smooth way… like drinking  a glass of tropical punch and then realizing it was laced with rum, when it’s too late.

kit Food: White Chocolate Kit-Kat Mini’s are everything!!!

Cheers, homies!

What I’m Digging #1

Here’s a list of things that I currently can’t get enough of.

Music: I’m into all genres of music and so are my homies. Being friends with other music lovers is a blessing; I’m exposed to so many new sounds. My bud, Cosalyn, has introduced me to a band out of Houston named Oceans Of Slumber. Oceans Of Slumber are a progressive metal band with a sound that has turned me into an instant junkie. When Cos told me about the band, I swear I listened to them for like four days straight. The songs I’m digging the most are “Winter”, “God In Skin”, “Suffer The Last Bridge”, and “Memoriam”. If you’re into melodic, soul-stirring, progressive metal, then please check this band out! Their new album “Winter” will be released on March 4, 2016.ocs

Metallica has rocked my world (that was so damn corny) since I was fifteen, and twenty years later I still adore them. Lately, I’ve been digging their incredible fourth album “…And Justice For All”. When I first got into the band this album never left my stereo. I’ve recently re-discovered just how dope “Justice” is. Standout tracks include “Blackened”, “…And Justice For All”, “One”, “The Frayed Ends Of Sanity”, and “Dyers Eve”.jus

Books: I’m fascinated by the mob and drug cartels. Don’t ask me why. Stories with gangster elements really does it for me. I’ve been digging erotic romance novels featuring mobsters, and hit men. Yes, there is such a thing and it’s bossome! I’m reading for the second time “The Enforcer” by Kaye Blue. Kaye is an author who hasn’t disappointed me yet. Her stories will hold you hostage every time, and I have no complaints about that. “The Enforcer” is about an enforcer/trained killer for the mob, who falls for a woman who works at a diner that he frequents. Sounds simple, but this story is so complex, and multi-layered. My emotions were all over the place after my first read. Ms. Blue’s Romanian Mob Chronicles series is a must read! The male characters are strong alphas who only bow to their women. The female characters are all intelligent, gorgeous, and are curvy. As a plus-sized woman I can dig that.enf

Speaking of alluring women with devastating curves, another book I’m reading for the second time is “Curvy Ever After” by best-selling author, Twyla Turner. This was the collection that made me pissed that I don’t have a hot man to act out some of the… let me stop putting myself out there like that. 😀 But, I know you get what I was trying to say. “Curvy Ever After” is an erotic short story collection inspired by classic fairy tales. Each story features a curvy heroine, and a hero who can’t get enough of her. I was pleased with every single story, and that usually doesn’t happen with me and most short story collections. Most collections have like just four overwhelmingly impressive stories, and the rest are bullshit. “Curvy Ever After” was a five star read! I fell in love with Twyla’s  work because her brand is all about lifting up all the sexy, and thick ladies of the world. Twyla’s characters are women who are desired and lusted after; and it’s not like a fetish or anything. I’ll have more about Ms. Turner in an upcoming author spotlight, so look out for it.cea

I plan on doing a lot more of these lists. If there’s anything that you want to turn me on to, then go ahead and let me know. Until next time…

Cheers, homies! Stay blessed!
