Finished Reads #6

finishedFinished Reads time! In these posts I do mini reviews of the last few books I’ve read. In this edition I’m reviewing the last five read books. Each book receives a star rating from 1 to 5 stars. 5 being the best- a fucking masterpiece! Let’s get started.

The Last Mission by Z. Lundy-¬†A contract killer falls for her target. This plot was anything but simple, trust me. I would put¬†The Last Mission under the “dark” reads category because this wasn’t your typical romance. Everything leading up to the final two chapters was intriguing, but the ending wasn’t my cup of tea. I am interested enough to find out what happens next.¬†3.5 Stars

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven- This was a YA Contemporary novel that focused on mental illness, grief, and falling in love. I was devastated by the ending… even though I knew it was coming, it still hurt.¬†3.5 Stars

Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino-¬†This novel rocked my fucking world! it was everything a great love story should be; passionate, intense, and unforgettable. I was completely immersed in this “lost connection” romance. I finished this book in a day.¬†5 Stars

Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino-¬†My name is Se’Quasha and I love Renee Carlino’s novels. Hashtag Straight Addict Status!¬†Lucian Divine¬†was essentially about a woman falling in love with her guardian angel. Before you roll your eyes, just read the damn book because it’s amazing! I wasn’t really digging the ending, but the story was still hella close to being perfect.¬†4.5 Stars

Swear On This Life by Renee Carlino-¬†Wasn’t able to add this to my¬†Current Reads¬†post because I finished it. Lol. Hashtag Blogger Problems. This novel was about a woman who discovers that her first love wrote a book… about their history. I really dug it.¬†4 Stars

Cheers, homies!

Current Reads #23

I’m doing a little dance because it’s¬†Current Reads¬†time! Let’s do this! I swear I love getting excited about the little things.

takingThe Taking by Dean Koontz-¬†I’ve never read anything by Mr. Koontz, but I know I’m in for a thrilling introduction to his work. Simply put¬†The Taking¬†is about chaos, disorder, and the end of all things… courtesy of who knows what.

brightBright Side by Kim Holden-¬†I’ve heard a few BookTube peeps mention this novel. I thought I would take a chance and check it out. A young woman finds love in a new town, but has a closet filled with skeletons; my remix of the synopsis.

So what are you peeps currently reading? Let me know!

Cheers, homies!

Current Reads #22

Hi ya, homies! Lately I’ve been a bit disappointed with the last few books I’ve read. I’ll discuss my annoyance in the next edition of¬†Finished Reads. But let’s get into what I’m currently reading. On a side note one of these books I started, then finished within a twenty -four hour period… it was that damn good! I decided to include it in this post anyway.

Lu¬†Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino-¬†I love a good guardian angel story; as long as it’s not corny, or full of clich√©s. Here’s a sample of the Goodreads synopsis. “Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she‚Äôs starting to think that she‚Äôll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.” This makes my soul cry out yessssssss! I’m hoping that this book blows me away.

before¬†Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino-¬†This is a second chance romance which I totally love. I started this book late Tuesday night, and by Wednesday morning I was done. I’ll share more of my thoughts on this novel soon.

Homies, what are you reading? Let me know down in the comments!

Current Reads #21

When pondering about my next reads, I knew that I wanted something satisfying, with a narrative that would stick to my bones. Yep, I was hungry when putting this together! LOL. Anyhoo, here are my Current Reads.

Z¬†The Last Mission Volume 1: An Assassin Outmatched by Z. Lundy-¬†The Interracial/Multicultural Romance community is so passionate about good reads; and they’re also super supportive of new talent. I’ve heard about this novel over the past few weeks, but the glowing review from my homie, Mae (heyyyy) really made want to take a chance.¬†Z. Lundy‘s debut erotic novel is about a female assassin, and her hard to kill target. I know the pair gets together, but how they get there is what I’m interested in. So hyped for this book!

allAll The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven- YA Contemporary is a genre that I have to be in the mood for. I went from not digging YA, to now enjoying it a bit. I learned about this novel from a post on BuzzFeedBooks. All The Bright Places is about two teens dealing with emotional issues, and they strike up a friendship. I bet this will be an unforgettable read.

Well that’s it! Thanks for checking out my post.

Cheers, homies!

Finished Reads #5

watch This is the fifth edition of my¬†Finished Reads. In these posts I give mini reviews of the last few books that I’ve read; and then give them a star rating from 1 to 5. 5 being the best of the best. This time my mini reviews are going to be even shorter since I’ll be reviewing thirteen books! Okay, I seriously thought that six out of the thirteen were already posted, but they weren’t. Dang it! Hecks, so I’m just going to make this quick. I’ll go back to the regular format in my¬†Finished Reads #6¬†post.

Priest by Sierra Simone- Priest combined spirituality, religion, and raw sexuality in a read that was anything but easy. However, I definitely enjoyed this novel. 4 Stars

Monster In His Eyes by J.M. Darhower-¬†This was an interesting entry into the mob romance sub-genre that I love the hell out of. I didn’t love¬†Monster In His Eyes, but I really dug it.¬†3.5 Stars

Garden Of Goodbyes by Faith Andrews- Guttural. Thought-provoking. Heartbreaking. Emotional. G.o.G. will be one of my fav reads of 2017. 5 Fucking Stars

A Bubble Of Time by Pepper Pace-¬†I made a deep connection with the protagonist in this page-turning, sci-fi novel. From the start I couldn’t get enough.¬†4 Stars

The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger-¬†A magical and magnetic love story that left me satisfied.¬†4 Stars

Burned Promises by Willow Winters- A second chance romance that brought the damn heat! The sex scenes slayed!!!!! 4 Stars

Reap: The Irish Mob Chronicles by Kaye Blue-¬†Ms. Blue is an awesome writer and has written some pretty compelling suspense romance stories. I just didn’t really connect with¬†Reap.¬†3.5 Stars

The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid-¬†For two days I didn’t give a damn about eating, or sleeping. This novel was fucking brilliant!!!¬†5 Massive Stars

After Dark by Haruki Murakami- I was living for this book, but my enthusiasm eventually diminished. 3 Stars

The Gravity Of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry- A beautiful love story. 4 Stars

Exorcist Road by Jonathan Janz- This was absolutely and unapologetically terrifying. 4.5 Stars

Table For One by Laura Ashley Laraque- A poetry collection that fed my soul, and inspired my spirit. 5 Bright Stars

All The Good Parts by Loretta Nyhan-¬†The protagonist was relatable af. I felt as if I actually knew her. Great writing, but the side characters made me deduct half a star from the rating. I’m very interested in reading more from this author.¬†3.5 Stars¬†

Thanks for checking out my post!

Current Reads #20

Happy September, homies! It’s time to tell y’all about my¬†Current Reads. I’m really excited for the selection of books this week. Let’s get started.

TableTable For One by Laura Ashley Laraque- This is a poetry collection that came highly recommended. The themes revolve around self-love, romantic love, heartbreak, and inner strength. Sounds like this collection is absolutely perfect for me.

janzExorcist Falls by Jonathan Janz-¬†The latest novel from one of my favorite authors,¬†Exorcist Falls¬†is a supernatural horror novel involving Father Jason Crowder, a priest who is at war with the forces of evil. I’m already scared!

all¬†All The Good Parts by Loretta Nyhan-¬†A YouTuber I dig included this novel in a recent kindle/book haul, and it sounded really intriguing. A woman in her late thirties is basically trying to get her life together. I know I’ll connect with this story.

gravity The Gravity Of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry- I forgot to include this book in my last Current Reads post. Will be doing a mini review in an upcoming Finished Reads post.

Thanks for checking out my post!

Cheers, homies!

My Top 5 Depeche Mode Albums

dmodeDeep within me there’s a love for¬†Depeche Mode¬†that will never go away.¬†DM’s¬†music has been an important part of my life’s narrative. I’m grateful for being introduced to this band. I’m thankful that we still have them with us. For well over thirty plus years¬†DM¬†has been kicking ass and making uncompromising music. It’s 2017 and they’re still relevant!¬† The music of¬†DM¬†is experimental, danceable, provocative, and timeless. Here are the 5 albums that I just can’t get enough of. ūüėČ

5. Exciter (2001)- Exciter¬†was my gateway drug album. I’d heard of the band, but once a homie played this album for me… shiiit it was a wrap. I. Was. Hooked. I became an instant junkie for the band.¬†Exciter’s¬†saturated with the most beautiful melodies, and emotionally- rich vocals.¬†“I Am You”¬†is the sexiest song ever created.

4. Black Celebration (1986)-¬†Atmospheric. Layered. Bold. And dark as fuck.¬†Black Celebration¬†is the perfect album; it gives me everything. The lyrics are poetic. The vocals are haunting and unforgettable. The music has so much substance. I suggest listening to this album during a rainstorm in Autumn- and don’t forget the blacklights, and the sandalwood incense.¬†“Stripped”,¬†“Dressed In Black”,¬†“New Dress”. Damn! Every single song is incredible.

3. Playing The Angel (2005)-¬†This album is a freaking masterpiece. From the sonic assault of¬†“A Pain That I’m Used To”, to the hypnotic¬†“The Darkest Star”.¬†P.T.A.¬†is one of the most enjoyable albums in their catalogue. I lost someone extremely close to me the year this album came out. I was constantly playing¬†P.T.A.¬†which is why the album is so meaningful.¬†“Nothing’s Impossible”¬†is the jam of all jamz.

2. Violator (1990)-¬†A definitive¬†Depeche Mode¬†album for sure. Getting lost in this album is a given. You put¬†Violator¬†on and all the shit life brings to your door is forgotten, at least temporarily.¬†This album is epic on every level.¬†“Sweetest Perfection”,¬†“Personal Jesus”,¬†“Halo”, and¬†“Blue Dress”¬†are my favs.

1. Songs Of Faith And Devotion (1993)-¬†This is my absolute favorite album of the band’s. Instead of trying to recreate another¬†Violator, the band added a few traditional rock elements to their sound, and unleashed a whole different breed of animal.¬†Songs Of…¬†was made during a tumultuous time for the band, but out of that inner conflict came a remarkable album. My bud often says “drama and chaos produces the best art”.¬†“Mercy In You”,¬†“In Your Room”,¬†“Condemnation”,¬†“I Feel You”, these are all my jamz.

If you’re a fan of the band then share with me your fav albums. Until next time…

Cheers, homies!
